Why she is one of the most respected journalist of our time

Alex Crawford, in short, is the epitome of what a good foreign correspondent should be: inquisitive, courageous, resourceful. These are but just some of the many adjectives that one can use to describe her.

Her zest and thirst for answers combined with her courage to take chances and risks contributed to her scoop in her dramatic and riverting live coverage of Col Muammar Gaddafi’s downfall. While other reporters saw danger, she saw opportunity. BBC reporters who were also in the Libyan capital of Tripoli had made a judgment that it was not safe to travel with the convoy. Crawford, seized the chance and jumped into one and provided the world with a live update of the situation in a three minute video that captured the exuberation of the Libyans. In contrast, the BBC only aired file footage from the outskirts of the capital that appeared to have been shot during the late afternoon. The difference in the coverage was stark.

In her more than 20 years of experience as a journalist, Crawford has also steadily built up valuable contacts for herself. It was these contacts that enabled her to enter unventured terrians and seek out answers to the questions which has plagued the world.

Even at 48, the remarkable journalist who is a mother of four, would never stop at her work and in her pursuit of answers.
